GREATER NOIDA: A 32-year-old jeweller was shot at while resisting a
robbery at his shop in Badalpur on Thursday afternoon, the police said. Sunny Kumar said the incident happened when five men on two bikes came to his shop - Verma Jewellers - at 2.45 pm.
Kumar told the police that he was alone at that time. “Three men entered the shop and one of them pointed a revolver at Kumar, asking him to give them the valuables,” said victim’s friend, Rajneesh Yadav.
Yadav added that the accused pointed a gun at Kumar and asked him to hand over the valuables, following which Kumar stood up and ran towards the accused with an aim to snatch his pistol.
“In that attempt, Kumar managed to wrap his arms around the accused. However, the accused shot at his left hand in order to escape,” Yadav said.
On hearing the firing, some locals rushed inside the shop when the miscreants ran out and sped off. The entire incident has been recorded in the CCTV camera installed inside the shop.
DCP (Central Noida) Harish Chander said the locals rushed the victim to nearby Anand Hospital where he is undergoing treatment. Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered under sections 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC at Badalpur police station.
“Kumar has property feud with his in-laws. No valuables were stolen from the shop. We are examning the CCTV footage to identify the accused. Relevant action will be taken against the miscreants. The accused would soon be arrested,” Chander said.
Kumar and his family members have denied the enmity angle, saying it was a case of loot.
